The Ridings, Brig O’ Turk
Penny and Ian moved to The Ridings in December 2015. We chose this area because we love the Trossachs. It is fulfilling our dream of running some holiday lets – and sharing this beautiful area with other people. We can also indulge our favourite activities of exploring new places and walking!
We moved here with Penny’s Dad who has always loved all things Scottish. Penny remembers him and her Mum going regulalry to Scottish dancing classes when she was little and now he is enjoying the occasional ceilidh. He has taken up playing the Chanter (part of the bagpipes). He is enjoying looking out of the window at the hills beyond, sometimes snow capped and wondering at the ever changing vista as clouds come and go and colours change throughout the day. He also enjoys haggis, Burns poems and has joined a local Spanish speaking class and a French class to excercise his love of the language. He is also singing in a couple of choirs.
The Beautiful Trossachs
We have lived in quite a few areas of the UK – Buckinghamshire, Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, Devon and Sussex. All have their areas of beauty and loveliness but none seem quite so abundant with sheer gorgeousness as the Trossachs area of Scotland.
The many lochs, hills and forests make for the miles and miles of continuously stunning countryside. There also castles and distilleries and plenty of outdoor activities. Not to mention the wonderful restaurants, cafes and local food.
Penny is expanding her food blog Penny’s Recipes and is also further developing an interest in pottery as well as continuing to develop websites for small businesses. In the past Penny has worked as a web designer, Recruitment Consultant and IT Trainer.
Ian is continuing with his interest in photography – including taking pictures for this website. He is a volunteer with the Woodland Trust and also indulges in his passions for fishing and watching the local rugby teams. He worked as a Cathedral verger for many years, latterly in Exeter, which took over from his former job of mortgage underwriter!
